Comic-Con 2005!

Aaah another fine year! Well, it's all said and done and what a fantasic event as always. Nerds and Jedi and Games and Comics and Robots and Dice and ALL THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE! YEAH!!! Comic-Con rules. I get to go each year for "work", but it's "work" with a small "w". I mean, if I had one vacation a year, and it was the choice between lying on some tropical beach for four days or going to Comic-Con, well, it's no contest. Beaches are one thing, but Comic-Con? It's magical. It's the happiest place on earth. Here's some snaps and vids.

as always, I begin my trip with a shot out the window. I have this thing with
airplane windows. I just love em!

This is actually the day BEFORE Comic-Con, at a party that Cartoon Network
threw at their studio to celebrate their 5th anniversary. The stairwell is this... insane
collage of art from all the animators who work at the studio, and one guy had turned
this dual flourescent light fixture into a duel between Vader and Mace Windu. It's hard
to see, but they've made little card board light saber handles that connect with the tube,
which looks really great. Some red and purple gels over the lights would complete
the effect!

Ok we're on the floor! I managed to catch up with my buddy Gio who's working with a company'
called Propaganda games. His first con, and I hope not his last! Gio snagged some great photos
too, check it out at GioChannel

Ok, I've said hello to Gio and given him a few Comic-Con for rookies pointers,
time to get to work! HERE WE GO! Let's go find some cool properties to turn
into ANIMATED SERIES!

Booths have some people in costume that fans can come and get a photo with.
See, the thing is, some of the costumes are a little hard to move in... so in this video,
show employees have to guide Stewie from the Family Guy back to his booth
after his lunch break. Apparently Stewie can't manage the floor on his own!

Oooh, I LOVE these robots. Votoms is a great show - a little dated,
but MAN does it have some cool robots.

Speaking of robots, here's a remote controlled Lego R2! Awesome!

Here's R2 in action.

GET OUT OF THERE R2! LEGO DARTH IS LOOKING FOR YOU!
Jeez, I hope those plans don't fall into the wrong hands. Many Bothans
died to get that information to the Alliance.

Speaking of dark Jedi and people dying, MAN, check it out!
I'm having a little sit-down with Cartoon Network Exec
Heather Kenyon and lo and behold this freakin' DARK JEDI
just strolls past!

Back inside the Convention Center now... check out this super cool game from WizKids.
It's called "Pirates of the Crimson Coast!". You get a pack of cards, like hockey cards
or Pokemon cards, but they're plastic. You punch out the little plastic pieces and they
fit together into a little ship - there's two ships per pack, and it comes with this
little wee six sided dice. Ships move based on the card they come on - big ones
can move a length, or a length and a width, and small ones move a width, or two widths
or whatever depending on the specs. It's like Warhammer, but it's six bucks! Totally cool.

Here's a couple of the punch cards, which contain the basic rules. When you hit a ship
you can even damage it by removing it's mast! When all your masts are gone, the ship is sunk.
How cool!

Here's a panel on selling your original properties - Dan Evans has my damned hat!

Dude, this is sick. A republic era transport made of LEGO? Amazing.

So cool it deserves it's own movie.

Hey, it's Gio again! We've managed to sneak into the Warner party. Free margaritas and some quick
impromtu meetings are to be had!

Here's another party - the Adult Swim Party. I don't know how I managed
to get invited, it was a super elite list, but hey, I guess miracles happen.
They had this INSANE owl in a costume dancing with the party-goers,
and Michael Karsh (from National Geographic Kids) and I were entranced
by the Owl's disco prowess.

Check out this insane costume! Wild!

There'sa gaggle of them promoting a comic book. Crazy!

HOLY! This Alien is actually taking the time to pose with a fan and his child
before rending them limb from limb. Well, that's really considerate.

Ok! Signing off! See you next year!
